Creating Discussions

Discussions...a community of conversation!

Announcements are intended for broadcasting information while Discussions are designed for participating in a public conversation.  Discussions are typically used to stimulate conversation around course topics and also as forums for getting help or interacting with classmates.

Discussions may be simple or intricate depending on the content you add.  It could be as minimal as asking students to reply in writing to a discussion question or having them watch and respond to an embedded video or even recording an audio/video response of their own.  Writing engaging and relevant discussion prompts will keep your students interested and active in your course.

In addition to participating in course discussions, students may also be allowed to create new discussion topics of their own.  If you prefer not to allow students to do this, you may remove this option in your course settings.

TIP: Model the discussion behavior you seek from students by posting to each discussion in your course.  In addition to helping students get comfortable with the technology, posting to your class discussions will also increase your instructor presence and your interaction with students.
