Creating Quiz Questions

Ready, set...write your quiz!

Once you've decided what type of quiz or survey to use and you've chosen the appropriate settings, it is time to build your quiz and start writing questions.  In Canvas there are a variety of question types at your disposal, from simple T/F questions to formula based questions.

You can keep your quizzes engaging by using different question types or getting creative with the content editor.  Try including images, a video clip, or other media recordings in your quiz.  You can even have students use audio/video comments to leave their answers.  Your imagination and basic accessibility guidelines are your only limit!  Additionally, you can import QTI quiz files from other systems or create your own question banks to populate your quizzes.

For those of you who may be using publisher's materials, you may need to import a publisher's quiz package (QTI file).  The importing process for these packages varies by publisher.  Should you decide to use a publisher's (or other type) of quiz import package or to create your quizzes using Question Banks, that information is included below.  If you do not plan to use these tools in your course, you may skip those materials.

TIP: Publisher test bank formats are all a little different and sometimes they require a bit of finessing.  If you are working with a publisher's test bank, you may want to contact your campus eLearning office for extra support.
