How do I log in?
Is your class online or using online tools? If so, you need to know how to log in to Canvas.
All classes using online tools are accessed via the Canvas Learning Management System. Some of your classes may be entirely online, and others will only use online tools for parts of the course. Any online interaction in a course requires that you log into Canvas.
Some instructors use Canvas even when the class is held in a traditional in-seat setting. Below are the various class types.
- Online: this kind of class will be entirely online. In the schedule under rooms, you will see a www listed; the course is completely online, and you will not meet with the instructor in a classroom.
- Hybrid: In this mode, students will do part of the coursework online, but there will be some meeting days and times that you will be required to come to campus.
- Enhanced: All course times and days will meet in the classroom. However, the instructor has chosen to use Canvas to assist in delivering course content to students.

What is my password?
On your first login to Canvas, the password is set to the student's PIN. Typically, the PIN is set to the student's date of birth at registration. However, there is one trick to the PIN.
-
- If your birth month is a single digit, like June, drop that first zero. For example, if your date of birth was June 2, 1998, enter the PIN as 60298.
- Notice the zero in the day field is still used, and the year is shortened to two digits.
